Carlyle College

Located in Nottingham Road in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Carlyle College is an independent, co-educational Pre-School, Preparatory and High School.

Set on a historic 7-hectare campus, Carlyle combines small classes with an academically strong, IEB-aligned curriculum and real-world learning embedded into everyday education. Daily transport from Hilton and Howick makes access convenient for Midlands families.

Rooted in values. Focused on the individual. Preparing students for life.

Small classes ensure every child is known. Relationships are strong. Learning is purposeful. Individual pathways are supported and no student slips through the gaps.

We develop more than academic ability. Character, creativity and confidence are woven into daily school life — because success is about more than marks. Through industry partnerships and practical application, students gain the mindset and skills needed for university, entrepreneurship or the world of work.

As a family-run school, relationships matter. Parents are partners. Communication is open. Our community is personal, not transactional. Targeted academic and emotional support, with access to therapists and learning specialists, ensures every learner can move forward with confidence.

Rooted in Midlands values with a global outlook, Carlyle is guided by five core principles:

Be Community Minded.
Be a Critical Thinker.
Be an Individual.
Be a Leader.
Be Resilient.

Carlyle develops confident, capable young people who understand why they are learning — and where it can take them.

Epworth School

Epworth: a community built on faith, compassion and courage.

Nestled in the heart of Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg, lies a sanctuary of green and open space – a landscape of expansive trees and beautiful gardens that is home to Epworth School. Here, children from Grade RRR to Grade 12 belong to a Christian school community, firmly grounded in the enduring values of faith, compassion and courage.

Authenticity is at the heart of our ethos, and we strive for personal excellence in the classroom, on the stage, and on the sports field. For us, success is seeing our pupils working diligently to outperform their individual goals.

Our pre-preparatory school is the perfect place for children to start their journey through life and learning. Our boys and girls in Grades RRR – R, known as “the Epworth Eppies”,  thrive in our co-educational environment. At this early stage, we focus on instilling a love for learning through play and having fun. We want the children to explore and develop with confidence in a safe, secure and caring setting.

Along with meaningful play experiences, the children start learning the basic concepts of numeracy, literacy and life skills, as well as fine and gross motor skills. These are built upon in the Grade R Readiness programme, enabling a seamless transition into Grade 1.

Weekly computer, music, drama, library and physical education lessons enrich the learning process, giving children opportunities beyond the traditional classroom. Our Eppies also embark on outings and attend special shows that are theme-related.

In Grades 1 to 7, our holistic programme encourages girls to think critically and independently, to solve problems and to develop their creativity while expressing their individuality. Building self-confidence and resilience plays a central role in preparing girls for success both within the classroom and beyond.

Pupils participate in a comprehensive cultural programme, which includes music, drama and art. They have opportunities to learn a range of instruments, participate in choirs and ensembles, perform in dramatic productions and produce art in various forms.

Our sports activities cater for girls with varying sporting abilities, providing them with opportunities to discover their strengths and choices for themselves. While developing physical skills, we also focus on reinforcing key life skills such as commitment and discipline.

Community engagement is embedded in the culture of Epworth. Throughout the year, our pupils engage in various charitable projects, which benefit and enrich the lives of others.

Please contact the Epworth Marketing department to book a tour or to find out more about our school.
